Turkish government postpones visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on torture
Freedom from Torture shares the Special Rapporteur on torture's disappointment that the Turkish government has postponed his visit.
The media and civil society reports of torture of those linked by the government to the attempted coup and our own extensive medical evidence of torture over many years highlight that this is an issue that needs immediate investigation and action.
To convince the international community that his claim of "zero tolerance towards torture" is more than empty rhetoric, president Erdogan must ensure prompt access for the special rapporteur and take urgent steps to halt further abuses.
