Freedom from Torture’s response to Theresa May’s threat to scrap some Human Rights protections
Freedom from Torture CEO Susan Munroe says: “In the past few weeks Britain has witnessed some appalling terrorist atrocities. It is clear that action needs to be taken to stop such events ever happening...
However, this should not mean overturning those laws that uphold our values and provide vital safeguards for all of us. It is these values that terrorism seeks to weaken. Yesterday (6th June) Theresa May suggested that she would be prepared to scrap some of these protections.
We must stand by our values and reinforce that the foundations of our society are based on justice and respect for human rights."
