FFT welcomes torture inquiry announcement and calls for comprehensive and public scrutiny
The Prime Minister today announced the terms of a judge-led inquiry into allegations of UK complicity in the torture of terror suspects overseas, to be led by former Court of Appeal judge, Sir Peter Gibson.
The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture (now Freedom from Torture) has long called for a comprehensive, independent and transparent judicial inquiry into serious allegations of complicity, and views today's announcement as the first step to restore the UK's damaged reputation as an unequivocal supporter of the ban on torture.
