2012/13 Annual Review
We are pleased to announce the release of this year’s Annual Review – a look back over the last year at Freedom from Torture.
In the 2012/13 edition you can read about the full range of clients we help, the extraordinary clinical work taking place across our national centres and the increasingly effective ways in which we are bringing the issue of torture and the well-being of our clients to public attention.
Amongst this year’s many highlights...
- Freedom from Torture scheduled 26,838 appointments for torture survivors
- We had 1,490 clients in ongoing treatment compared with 1,293 in 2011 – a 15% rise
- We engaged the UK Border Agency and the Asylum and Immigration chamber of both tiers of the Tribunal to improve handling of medico-legal reports on torture in asylum decision-making processes
- We opened Children, Young People and Family services in all of our regional centres
- The Scotland centre was extended to have two additional therapy rooms
- We submitted evidence for the UN Human Rights Council’s universal periodic review of Sri Lanka
- The Survivors Speak OUT network spoke at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the European Parliament, and worked with the independent Chief Inspector of Borders and immigration on his inspection of the Detained Fast Track system
