Women's Survivor Group - Gulan's story
When Gulan’s husband died she tried to move on. She found love again, but her own family tortured her when they found out her partner was of a different religion.
“They beat me, locked me up, broke my nose. If I had stayed they would have taken my children from me. The family would have murdered me. One hundred percent. They told me, we will kill you, we will end your life.
“My life was in danger, I had to escape. It was the most difficult time of my life. It took four to five months, by lorry, foot, boat, any way you can imagine from one location to another. It was horrible. My daughter was only five. So many times we were so close to death. When we arrived in the UK, we didn’t know anyone in the UK.
“Freedom from Torture have helped me with everything, including one to one therapy. I was in so much pain when I arrived, even physical pain. But as the therapy helped me, I could relax more and sleep more. Even the physical pain went away. What they did here for me, the GP couldn’t do it.
“The women’s group is something I look forward to every week. We meet women from different cultures. My children made friends for life here, just as I have.”
Your gift could cover the cost of two women attending the Survivor Women’s Group for care and support.
