Freedom from Torture nominated for Charity Governance Award
Freedom from Torture has been shortlisted for a Charity Governance Award, the new UK awards that recognise and reward good charity governance. Freedom from Torture is one of the three shortlisted nominees in the 'Improving impact – charities with 26+ paid staff' section.
The awards are organised and funded by The Clothworkers’ Company, a City Livery company that supports trusteeship initiatives and supported by New Philanthropy Capital, volunteer matching charity Reach and charity recruitment company Prospectus.
The winners in each section will be announced at ceremony at London’s historic Clothworkers’ Hall on 12 May 2016 with Edward Stourton, BBC broadcaster and journalist making a keynote speech before the awards.
Susan Munroe, Chief Executive of Freedom from Torture, says:
“We are delighted to have made it through to the shortlist stage in this category. As an organisation serving some of the most vulnerable people in society, it is imperative for us to best address the needs of our clients, torture survivors and their families.
To learn more about our clients and to identify their needs, we developed a client database and an outcome tool. As a result we have been able to increase the number of clients we see by reducing the average length of time they spend in our care, while demonstrating improvement in their health and wellbeing. We use the data collected to provide feedback to clinical managers and individual clinicians so we can improve our organisational learning and provide even better care for clients”.
