My Mother's Voice
To mark Mother's Day, read this short poem from Aso, a torture survivor and member of Write to Life.
The voice of my mother as a child in my head.
I am a child, things knock in my head
I am waiting to hear that voice
The voice of my mother
I am crying deeply
For the voice to come back
The tears start from my eyes
Run down to my mouth
Nothing in the world is more important
Than that voice
Not my father’s cuddle
Nor my brother or sister’s kiss
All these things hide themselves
In my mother’s voice
When the voice comes back to me
The world in my home will be safe
My mother’s voice brings everything back to me
My father’s cuddle
My sister’s kiss
And most importantly
It brings a smile to my face.
